For Young People
Atid ("Leaders of Tomorrow") - Youth for Tikkun Olam
The ninth year of a regional project for the cultivation of youth leadership and the development of dialogue skills and joint study of topics related to Jewish-Israel identity in a multi-cultural society. This year the program has grown to include 200 participants and a planned outreach to Kiryat Malachi.
In addition, we have established an Atid Alumni Club and Internet network, called "Be'ad" that spans the generations of graduates of the Atid project and harnesses the influence it has had on them for continuing social action. The Atid projects are supported by the Poppers Prins Foundation, The Yoreinu Foundation, Tmura - The Israeli Public Service Venture Fund and The Levi Lassen Foundation.

"Mosaic: Jewish Pluralism through Community Theatre in Kiryat Malakhi
"Mosaic" is an educational Jewish-Israeli identity project for teaching personal and social empowerment, nurturing local leadership and encouraging social integration for Ethiopian Israeli youth from weak socio-economic backgrounds in Kiryat Malakhi, by means of the shared creation and presentation of community dilemma theatre.  Based on a pilot program run in 2006-07, the participants in "Mosaic" will study together sources of Jewish and Israeli culture, and then create educational dilemma and values dramas that combine both Jewish contents and situations from their own lives.  Afterwards, they will present the plays to their peers and to different communities in the city.  The performances will be followed by discussion with the audience of the issues raised in the play.  In this way, the project helps participants and community members work through issues in their lives as Israelis, while building self-esteem and social skills needed to accomplish goals they set for themselves.

"Mosaic" is supported by the generosity of the San Francisco Jewish Federation, the Shoresh Charitable Trust, and the Poppers Prins Foundation.

Happy Purim!
Parnership 2000: Chicago-Kiryat Gat-Lachish-Shafir in the Schools
The Yaacov Herzog Center has partnered with Chicago to offer a "Jewish Peoplehood" study program focused on the connection between Israel and the Diaspora, including a study unit of 4-5 lessons and coordinated activity on the classroom or school level.  The program facilitates an encounter with the Chicago community as an example of a Diaspora Jewish community, highlighting the activity of Partnership 2000 in the Chicago-Kiryat Gat-Lachish region.

As part of a yearly project of learning about Partnership 2000 and its relationship with Chicago, provided for all 5th graders in our Region, each class supplements their studies with a special P2K day in the school.

Fifth graders from the Yore Deah School in Kiryat Gat decided to revolve their day around the theme of Purim.  This class involved the entire elementary school in their P2K day project. Among the many craft projects they prepared, which included mask making, candy making, and Purim cards to a class at Congregation Am Yisrael in Northfield,IL, they prepared mishloah manot packages to be delivered to children in the beleaguered Sderot schools.  Each card was signed by an individual Israeli student from their “partners” in Chicago, Congregation Am Yisrael. The children felt that they truly were doing a mitzvah together with their counterparts from across the sea.
Sweets together!
